Noord

This often over-looked neighbourhood oozes alternative vibes. Noord offers visitors a true taste of Amsterdam with its urban-chic amenities including Europe’s largest flee markets and boutique coffee cafe culture. 

Check out the most famous part of Noord, NDSM-Werd. This former shipyard is now home to street artists, skateboarders and late-night shenanigans, away from the touristic centre.

De Pijp

Beyond the center of Amsterdam is the neighborhood ‘De Pijp’. Although the name of this neighborhood cannot be traced, the direct translation means ‘the pipe’. Locals presume it comes from its industrial past.

Today, De Pijp is a multi-cultural melting pot. Over thirty people from a hundred different nations call this part of Amsterdam home. At the epicenter of the vibrant scene is the Amsterdam’s most notorious market – Albert Cuyp Market.

There are over 100 stalls to meander between, but the number one thing to look out for are stroopwafels! These thin waffles with a caramel center are a favorite among the locals.

So if you’re looking for bargains, to meet the locals and munch on the local cuisine then De Pijp is the best area to stay in Amsterdam for you!

Museum Quarter

The museum quarter is undoubtedly the most expensive area to stay in Amsterdam, this comes down to its fabulous location. With the naturally stunning Vondelpark nearby, renting a bicycle is the best way to enjoy one of Europe’s most beautiful parks.

Not to forget, this district is filled to brim with world-famous museums. If you consider yourself a bit of an art fiend you’ll fit right in here. Jordaan is king of cool in Amsterdam. This district thrives on cafe culture and bohemian characters flock from all over Amsterdam to gather here. But who can blame them?

Jordaan is the epitome of what we imagine Amsterdam to be like; charming narrow streets, aligned with canals and flower markets selling tulips. It exemplifies Dutch life in its most tranquil form. 

In this area, you’ll also find the Anne Frank museum and the Lindengracht market which takes place on Saturdays and Sundays.

Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)

Pronounced as a UNESCO protected site in 2010, it’s safe to say Amsterdam’s Canal Ring, known by the locals as Grachtengordel, is one of the most sacred parts of the city.

In the shape of a horseshoe, the canal ring encaptures the old city center and connects De Pijp with the Jordaan district. Making it a great spot for traveling to and from different parts of Amsterdam.

Centrum

This bustling district boasts architectural beauty; from the Royal palace on Dam Square, Stadsschouwburg theater and the De Oude Kerk 13th-century church are at the top of the list.

Centrum is a hub for nightlife with two of the most popular gig spots in the city – Paradiso, and Melkweg. Additionally, you’ll find the majority of lively bars, clubs and general shenanigans happening in this part of the city.
